Chinese Dogwood (AKA Kousa Dogwood)

This tree makes a handsome small specimen tree. It is also used near patios and in groupings. This tree features long lasting, creamy white flowers which last up to six weeks. This tree blooms much longer than most spring flowering trees. After flowering, the tree features red raspberry shaped fruit which lasts into late fall. In the fall, its dark green foliage turns reddish purple or scarlet.

Most of the leaflets are arranged alternately along the rachis of the leaf; they are medium green, lanceolate, hairless, leathery, and rather lustrous in appearance. The margins of each leaflet have narrow fine teeth that are spaced moderately apart from each other. The base of each leaflet is often asymmetrical – one side is longer and more pointed than the other. The veins of each leaflet are pinnate; they are straight, but not very conspicuous.
